The Russian Revolution is the collective term for the series of revolutions in Russia in 1917, which destroyed the Tsarist autocracy and led to the creation of the Soviet Union. The Russian Revolution of 1917 is also called the Bolshevik Revolution or the October Revolution. In 1917 there were actually two revolutions in Russia. One was the February Revolution in which the Tsar abdicated his throne and the Provisional Government took power. The other was the October Revolution in which the Provisional Government was overthrown by the Bolsheviks.
During the Russian Revolution, the Russian got involted into World War I, and during that time, when they were fighting to the Germany, they were losing so badly, lots of the people were kill during the war.
Bolsheviks was the leader of the Russian Revolution, the reason that the revolution starts because of the people were tiredof the government so they wanted a change.

Causes of WW1

There were many causes of world war I, many of the were due to throughout the year and the need crops or industrialization. It was based on nation leaders who aggressed over other countries for rights of their own. One of the causes were Nationalism, The principle was ignored for the peace in the congress of Vienna. Another factor for the cause of world war I was imperialism. Great Britain, Germany and France needed markets after having increased the manufacturing from the industrialized work. Another cause was from the Bismark alliances which led Germany, Russia and Austria- Hungary into an alliance. There were many things that caused many leaders to fight for their rights, which eventually led to World War I.

Opium Wars - Imperialism in China

The Opium War between China and Great Britain was during 1839-1842. Opium is a drug grown in India and is used to make morphine and heroin. It is used to relieve pain, but it can also be harmful. The British decided that they needed to balance their trade so they decided to sell and buy this drug to China. China didn't like that, so they decided to put, whoever is dealing with Opium, to death. The Chinese wanted to stop the growing import trade in Opium. Obviously, the medicine wasn't doing any good, it turned into a drug. The tradings began to flourish. The British Opium trade started in China and began the world's first drug war.
By the middle of 1842, the British had defeated the Chinese at their trade route, the Yangtze, and were occupying Shanghai. The war finally ended in August 1842, with the signing of China's first Unequal Treaty, the Treaty of Nanking.

There were some hardships that Europeans had while traveling through Africa, were traveling by foot. Another was that they were losing some supplies like food and water because of theifs. Also, they had to fight off the natives living in Africa. Some of them didn't survive the exploration. It was pretty strange that the world's largest river in the world, the Nile River, had a lake that was named Lake Victoria, after the British Queen. It was wierd because the europeans did not discover the lake, they just mapped it. They should not have had the right to name it. Europeans were far more advanced than African people. Europeans had better weapons. For example, in the movie, the Africans had never seen a gun. they were stunned. As a result of the high advancement of techology, Africa was easily conquered.

Imperialism Project

For the Imperialism project, we had a blank world map, and we had to color in the map with different colors. We drew shipping routes. For example one shipping route was from Spain to the Carribeans. We had to use color pencils to show what nation/country controlled what. For example Englands colony was supposed to be colored in red. What I think was the point of this project was to show what imperialism was and what it did. I believe it lasted from the 1500's to about the 1850's.

Karl Marx and Communism

Karl Marx was an German philosper that created the idea of Communism. He didnt agree with the conditions of the workers in Europe. He thought that the workers had more powers over the landlords and they should unite in a world revolution for Communism. Communism is when the goverment controls everything and the people have no control over the goverment, those who went against communism were treated harshly. He wanted communism to take over the world because he wanted everyone to be controlled by the goverment and everyone to have equal amount of money paid and equal work hours.

Karl Marx was a communist. Karl Marx was a Jewish german man who converted to Christianity. Karl was born in Trier. His dad forced the family to become Christian so they could get a job. He was against the Industrial Revolution. He was upset at how much workers we treated and the thing that children were working in the factories. He wanted the people in the factories to be treated fairly and respected. After Karl Marx had died his ideas and thoughts were known as Marxism. So because of the Industrial Revolution, Marxism became very popular with nations like China and Russia. Still today we have some communist countries. For example China, Cuba, North Korea, Laos, and Vietnam are the only countries left that are communist.

Nationalism and the Creation of Italy

The definition of Nationalism according to the document is the belief that one's greatest loyalty should not be a king or an empire, but to a nation of people who share a common culture or history.

I am nationalistic because I bond with and trust people around me that are from where I am from, and those who I know really well. I go to special party's for history, I go to my grandparents a lot, evem thpugh they live far away. I am loyal to go to them as much as I can, or that is whenever I get a chance.

I think that nationalism was used in a strange way. All of the Italian people were taking a lot of pain and punishment. So somehow all the people gathered together, and they wanted to revolt. Then they go together with some other countries that were also being pushed around by the same empire that was controlling Italy. They got together, and wanted to start a war to fight for their freedom. This war was called the "Austro-Prussian War". This war was in 1866, and Prussia had won this war.

Italy was nothing before nationalism happened. Nationalism destroyed many empires/countries but it also build many countries that are still with us here today. Italy became Italy thanks to nationalism. If it wasn't for that I wonder how it would be today.

Simon Bolivar and Latin American Revolutions

Simon Bolivar was born on the date of July 24, 1783 and died on the date of December 17, 1830. He was known as a South American political leader. He was the president of Gran Colombia from 1819- 1830. He has got the following countries independence: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Bolivia.

In these countries he is referred as a national hero to them.On the date of August 6, 1825 at the CONGRESS OF UPPER PERU, THE REPUBLIC OF BOLIVIA was created. Bolivar is one of few men to have a country named after him. It is such a prestige honor to have a country named after your name. I think the reason they named the country Bolivia after his name, was because he was a hero to them.

He got them their independence.He helped to defeat the country of Spain. Spain at that time had control of a lot of things. With the help of Simon Bolivar 6 countries gained their independence from Spain. He was fighting for independence of his country, and other countries around his.

What influenced Bolivar was the French and the Scottish Enlightenment and also the Greek.

When I read part of the constitution I liked this long saying very much "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government."

When I read this I believe that it is trying to say that all people should be created equal, and they all have their rights. According to this the government gets its power from the people. Without the people our government would not be strong.

Scientific Revolution:Scientific Method

The Scientific method is a serious of steps that scientists use to solve a problem. To do the first step of the scientific method you would need to identify a problem by observing things. Then for the second step you will need to make a hypothesis of what is going to happen. Then you would test the hypotheses to see if it is correct. If it's incorrect then you will have to do another experiment, with a different hypotheses. You will have to keep doing experiments until your hypotheses is right. This is the scientific method of solving problems.

For example Aristotle said that heavier objects fall faster than light objects. Then Galileo proved him wrong by dropping a very light object and a heavy object at the same time from the Tower of Pisa. Somehow it ended up that the objects fell to the floor at the same time.

The geocentric theory is a Greek theory that Earth was the center of the universe. It was interesting to the astronomers that the rest of the universe would move around earth.The Sun, Moon, planets, and stars could be seen moving around Earth along circular paths day after day.

The heliocentric theory is a theory that states that the Sun is the central body of the solar system and perhaps of the universe. The first evidence of theory was found in philosophers writings. It was around 6 century B.C. They said that earth was round from seeing eclipses of the moon. As we know now they were right. Earth's shadow on the moon is always shaped as a circle.

The Geocentric Theory came before the Heliocentric theory. The Heliocentric theory came from about the time of the Scientific Revolution. The theory as we can all see is true is the Heliocentric theory. The center of the universe is the sun.

Galileo Galilei was on trial for writing in a book his idea that the Earth was not at the center of the universe, that the sun was at the center. The Catholic Church believed in the Geocentric theory. They believed that the universe revolved around the Earth. Galileo was sentenced to house arrest.

Evolution v.s Creation

Creation is the belief that God created everything, all the world in 6 days. He created water, earth, other planets, the universe, people, pretty much everything that ever existed he created. He called light day, and dark night. On the 7th day it was a resting day, which is a Sunday.

Evolution is a belief that everything was created somehow. A widely held notion that all life is related and has descended from a common ancestor. For example the birds and the bananas, the fishes and the flowers are all related.

I believe in evolution because I think that all the world was created somehow someway, by something else.
